BATTERY DANCE COMPANY - Battery Baltic Tour 2002
The Lower Manhattan-based Battery Dance Company, directed by choreographer Jonathan Hollander, announces its Baltic Tour 2002, with performances slated in 5 countries across Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. The Company of 6 dancers hailing from 5 countries comprises Tadej Brdnik, Virginie Mécène, Maurizio Nardi, Kevin Predmore, Mariella Rietschel, and Adrianna Thompson.
Highlights include performances in:
SWEDEN: Stockholm's 750th Anniversary Celebration Festival
NORWAY: Konserthus, Stavanger
ESTONIA: Tallinn Main Square; Rakvere City Festival
RUSSIA: OPEN LOOK Festival, St.Petersburg
POLAND: MALTA Festival, Poznan, Maly Theatre, Warszawa and The American Week Festival, Sandomierz, Poland
Each appearance represents a national debut for Battery Dance Company with the exception of the performances in Poland where the Company has visited three times previously in 1996, 1998 and 2000.
Battery's programs will be presented in two formats, with main-stage productions for the large concert halls and outdoor civic festivals, and the appropriately named SOLO PROJECT to be presented in alternative spaces such as art galleries, city halls and museums. The mainstage productions include Used Car Salesman (2000), the anyones ballet (1985), Mother Goose (2000) and Layapriya (1998), all choreographed by Jonathan Hollander.
In addition to main-stage performances and THE SOLO PROJECT, Battery will organize meetings with its overseas counterparts - artists and institutions - to prepare the ground for new artistic collaboration opportunities between the U.S. and the greater Baltic region.
