Battery Dance Company's 21st Annual Downtown Dance Festival
FREE PUBLIC PERFORMANCES IN LOWER MANHATTAN
The revival of Lower Manhattan is irrefutably important to all New Yorkers, and the role that Battery Dance Company plays in that revival is inherent in its Downtown Dance Festival, scheduled to be presented in its 21st year of free public performances out-of-doors on August 24 - 30, 2002, at Battery Park and Chase Plaza.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, August 24 and 25, Battery and its Downtown Dance Partners, Chen and Dancers and Chinese Folk Dance Company, will present two three-hour concerts of dance especially designed for young audiences on the Great Lawn at Historic Battery Park. Other downtown-based performers include Jane Golderg's Changing Times Tap, Dha Fuzion and Center for Traditional Music & Dance. Sponsors include the Con Edison, The Conservancy for Historic Battery Park, New York City Department of Parks and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and Crown Properties.
On five successive week-day lunch hours, from 12 noon - 1:30 p.m., the dance companies of Lower Manhattan will bring their diverse artistry to the business community and visitors to the Financial District at Chase Plaza, adjacent to Nassau Street between Pine Street and Maiden Lane, sponsored by JP Morgan Chase.
