Based on lines by the contemporary American poet Robert Creeley, "Zero" constitutes a modern gloss on a commedia dell'arte divertimento. Each of the five sections takes its cue from Creeley's deceptively simple poems and conjures up a deck of environments and moods.
Zero is a harlequinade with hula-hoop, Two is a hot and twisted tango, Blue is an autobiographical waltz for a quizzical woman, Heaven is a kiddies' romp and Seven is Virginia Woolf-like stroll in a forest at dusk.
Zero...Two...Blue... was the subject of a 30 minute television production shown on Polish national television in 2000.
Music composed on commission by Frank Carlberg, with support from Meet the Composer, gains from the haunting voice of Christine Correa and the deft pianism of Carlberg at the keyboard.
