Four urban scenes evoke the changing face of a city during the course of one day...
The opening duet for two women in the rain segues into an early morning "work out" in the park for two men; as dusk arrives, the men towel off and don evening suits, and are joined by the two women, now in cocktail dresses, for off-kilter flirtations and "dates".
A bizarre after-hours party whirls and dissolves into a static portrait of adult children peering out of their darkened room slashed by the lights of neon signs and passing cars.
4-Way Intersection took its initial shape at a workshop at the Silesian Dance Theater's International Contemporary Dance Festival in Bytóm, Poland, in 1998, and was premiered in New York City later that year, accompanied by the Finnish jazz ensemble NADA.
It has since been featured at the 1999 European Cultural Month Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the Varna Summer Festival and Lent Festival in Maribor, Slovenia, and on a tour of Poland in 2000.
The creation of 4-Way was made possible through the generous support of the Samuel Freeman Charitable Trust, Finnair, Silesian Dance Theatre, Finlandia Foundation and LUSES.
